Dear parents/carers

Two Newsletters in one week! I think that tells you just how excited we are about our achievements this term and how much news we want to share with you.

The Prom

As always, this was a lovely evening.

A lot of tears were shed as parents and staff watched the young people arrive in style in a variety of vehicles at The Kingfisher, each one of them looking absolutely wonderful. How many times did I hear the comment, “I can't believe how fast the years have gone”? and I can only agree. Thank you to all of those parents for allowing us to share those years – we are proud of our young people and wish them the very best as they go forward to the next stage of their lives. More photos of the evening are available on the website and in Reception.

Mission Statement

Over the past few weeks, we have asked anyone involved with the school to vote on a new Mission Statement and I'm pleased to be able to tell you that the winner is:

“Learning Shapes Lives”

I hope you agree that this statement really does say what we are about and as we move into a new era as Pensnett High School , I hope that learning really does shape the lives of all of the young people, parents, carers, staff and the community of Pensnett.

Staff Changes

As usual, the end of a school year always brings about changes and we are now saying our goodbyes to the following staff:

Mrs Fisher is leaving us to go to Earls High School. She has taught Food Technology at Pensnett since 2001 and, more recently has coordinated the Key Stage 4 Technology curriculum. Over the years she has become one of our most popular tutors and a consistently inspiring teacher to many students. As one of the most optimistic teachers I know, we will all miss her ever-present smile and her total commitment to student success. We wish her all the best in her new role.

Mr Hayes joined us in 2004 after a career change from the Royal Airforce. As a teacher of electronics he has motivated many students through his enthusiasm and humour. He is now moving on in his career to a new school in Telford. I am sure that students, both from our school and the many that have attended his Saturday and holiday classes, will wish him the best of luck in his new role.

Mr Healy has been at Pensnett since he qualified as a teacher in 2001. As a teacher of Geography he has had many successes and his relaxed style of delivery has become popular with students. Mr Healy is going to spend some time travelling and collecting his own stories and resources from other countries – and we all envy him. Good Luck!

Mr Howard has been with us as a temporary teacher of Music since September 2006. He has worked hard to make sure that Music continued at the school over the last year, but is now looking to be able to spend more time on his own interests. We wish him well.

Mr Nicholls joined us as a temporary teacher in September last year, went to America then (the lure of Pensnett being too great) returned in January to give us two terms as a teacher of Science. He is now off to Earls High School as second in the Science Department, where we all wish him good luck.

Miss Reynolds started with us in September 2006 after qualifying and has successfully completed her induction year as a Science teacher. She is now going to Ridgewood School as a permanent member of their Science Department.

Miss Thompson has been at Pensnett for 3 years and was responsible for introducing Dance into the curriculum. As a member of the PE department, and more recently in her role in supporting the Student Managers, she is a popular and ambitious member of staff. Miss Thompson is moving to Ounsdale High School where she will be in charge of Dance as well as Assistant Year Head of Year 7. Best wishes!

Mrs Sankey is going on maternity leave and will not return until well into next year. All the very best wishes for the happy event! We’ll keep you all posted with the news.

In September we will be welcoming a number of new teachers and I know you will be pleased to hear that we have filled all vacancies.

Leading Parent Partnership Award

We were delighted to hear this week that we have been awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award in recognition of the work we do with parents and carers. Thank you to everyone who took part in the application interviews and assessment, and a particular thank you to Ian Beddows who has led the process over the past year – well done!

Looking forward to seeing you for tea and biscuits!

The End of an Era

So a final Thank You from Pensnett School of Technology to all parents, carers, students, staff, governors and members of our community for everything that you have done to support the school over the years. We hope that you have a very enjoyable and safe summer, and we look forward to seeing you all in September, ready to join us at the start of a new and successful era as

FRIENDZ (MENTORS)

The following Year 9 students have been trained, in school, to be Friendz Mentors to the incoming Year 7 students:

Gemma Bradley
Gemma Bolton
Adam Copson
Credia Ineza
Aaron Dunn
Liam Guest
Chris Bagley
Joseph Lawley
Emma Hughes

The first part of their new “job” was to work with Year 6 students when they came to Pensnett School for their induction day(s). This involved meeting and greeting the youngsters and then spending the day supporting them during lessons, break time and lunch time. Three students, Adam, Credia and Emma were able to come during the evening to help meet and greet the parents and families of our new Year 7’s, and to model the new uniform. After that the Friendz will attend one Year 7 Form registration period per week, attend Year 7 assemblies and run a lunch time ‘indoor’ games club ONLY for Year 7 students to help them settle into their new school.
